The newest fire station and community centre had their grand opening this coming Saturday, September 22. Everyone is welcome to celebrate the grand opening of the Trafalgar Park Community Centre and Fire Station #3 from 10 in the morning to 4 in the afternoon at 133 Rebecca St!

Fun and Celebrations Awaits

Those who will go on the opening day will get to enjoy food trucks, cultural drop-in activities, tours of the community centre, and free family recreational activities. Celebrations start at about 10:30 a.m. beginning with the fire station’s grand opening welcoming ceremony followed by the community centre’s opening at 11:00 a.m.

A free public skate between 3 and 4 in the afternoon will be with the Oakville Blades and free family skates are scheduled on the following times:

  • 11:15 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • 12:30 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.
  • 1:45 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
Other offerings at the Trafalgar Park Community Centre include:

  • Pre-registered camps and classes
  • Drop-in programs, skate and helmet rentals as well as recreational skating
  • Programs for the enjoyment of those who are ages 50 and up at the Trafalgar Park Older Adults Centre
The Town and Oakville Public Library will also have:

  • An indoor track
  • Fitness and wellness programs
  • Circuit, weight training, and cardio equipment
  • Oakville Hockey Development programs

All for the Community’s Needs

The new community centre’s amenities include a 200ft by 100ft ice pad, rental rooms for community groups, a double gymnasium, and so much more in the coming weeks. These are all made possible by the $41 million spent on redeveloping the historic Oakville Arena into the Trafalgar Park Community Centre.

Invitations Extended to Everyone

Everyone is welcome to join in the festivities and try out the new amenities. Those who are wanting to participate in a skate are advised to bring a helmet for safety but leave hockey sticks, pucks, and equipment at home because they’re not permitted during the free skates. Rentals for skates and helmets will be available at the community centre but only during the programming times. Note too that even though it is the opening day, rentals will not be free and will be at a first come, first served basis. Come early to make sure that you won’t miss any of the events and secure your chance for a fun day skating!

For families, food won’t be an issue because there will be a wide variety of food options for the entire day. Be sure to come with cash because some vendors won’t be accepting card payments. It is best to take public transit going to the Trafalgar Park Community Centre as the area have limited parking spaces. Who knows? You might bump into old friends or meet new ones while commuting!
