Wouldn’t life be a lot easier if you can order your groceries online and simply pick them up at a GO station on your way home? That’s something that is already a reality for five GO stations: Bronte, Clarkson, Whitby, Rogue Hill, and Oakville!

Commuters Rejoice!

Shopping for groceries is always a chore, more so for commuters who may have to lug their groceries around to get home. Now that five GO stations offer grocery pick up for commuters and non-commuters alike, those living in or near Bronte, Clarkson, Whitby, Rogue Hill, and Oakville are sure to enjoy hassle-free after work shopping.

How to Shop and Commute

Shoppers just need to place an order prior to midnight of the next day they want their groceries to be ready for pick up. For instance, if you’re planning to have a steak dinner on Wednesday, order before 11:59 p.m. ends on Tuesday. That’s super easy! The orders will then be filled and be ready for homebound next-day pick up at your specified GO station.

Orders are required to be a minimum of $30 and placed online at fortinos.ca or loblaws.ca. They will then be picked up from staffed kiosks or refrigerated trucks located at GO stations. Loblaw made sure that the’ve considered the factors that can make shopping easier for commuting shoppers.

First Ever in Canada

This way of on the go shopping is the first ever of it’s kind to be introduced in Canada, beamed Anne Marie Aikens, spokesperson for Metrolinx. She also shared that Metrolinx is always looking for ways to encourage ridership and to make GO stations even more attractive to commuters. After all, the more commuting is made easier for people, the better it will be for communities as well as the transport agency. The service is made possible together with Loblaw Cos. Ltd.

Loblaw senior vice-president for e-commerce Jeremy Pee acknowledges that commuting is a huge part of everybody’s life, more so if they live in communities serviced by GO stations. He shared that this new service with Metrolinx is an extension of their click-and-collect service that allows people to shop for their grocery online and have them ready for pick-up in the store for a minimal fee of between $3 to $5.

Aikens further added that the Loblaws program is a result of Metrolinx’s success with other food retailers. They selected Loblaws via a tendering process.

More to Come

In view of the above, Aikens mentioned that Metrolinx has an entire division looking at possible partnerships with the business community and looking at ways to increase revenue without having to increase fares.
