Any Oakvillian would be thrilled with this news! Our Town recently bagged two awards at the 2015 International Economic Development Council (IEDC) Annual Conference last month, true testaments to all the efforts that our Town government have placed on making our Town better and providing Oakvillians more opportunity for growth.
Prestigious Awards
The two awards our Town got at the IEDC Annual Conference are the Bronze Excellence in Economic Development Award for the 2014 Oakville Innovation Awards and the Gold Excellence in Economic Development Award for the Town staffs’2014 Annual Report.Oakville Mayor Rob Burton shares that this shows how the council is working hard to attract, retain, and encourage businesses to develop in our Town. He also said that the awards are a reflection of how the Town staffs are doing an excellent job at showcasing how attractive Oakville is as a place to live, work, and conduct business in. He further adds that this helps make Oakville continue to be a prime destination for new investment and maintaining existing ones.
Together with the local marketing firm Mindshape, the Town staff developed the 2014 Economic Development Annual Report with the theme, An Environment for Innovation Growth. According to the Town staffs, the theme celebrates Oakville’s innovative environment that makes it a priority destination for business.
The Oakville Innovation Awards
A joint effort between the Town, Haltech, Silicon Halton, the Oakville Chamber of Commerce, and the Oakville Chapter of the Professional Engineers of Ontario, the Oakville Innovation Awards was launched last year to celebrate engineering and technology excellence plus recognize those who have celebrated in the development of processes or products that shows leading edge development and research.Saginaw Future Inc. president and IEDC chair JoAnn Crary says that economic development efforts have played a crucial role in the global economy, be it just localized community projects or large scale activities. She further shares that awards serves as a gesture of appreciation to the efforts made by organizations like the Town of Oakville for being leaders of change.
More Awards and Recognitions
It should be noted that our Town also won another award from the Economic Developers Council of Ontario for their work with the Ontario Auto Mayors earlier this year – the award for Regionalism and Cross Border Collaboration.Director of Economic Development for our Town Dorothy St. George shares that Oakville has been awarded a total of five international, four national, and four provincial awards through their department since the economic development strategy was created in 2009. She adds that awards such as mentioned showcases the efforts and hard work of the Economic Development department to generate a positive change in our community. We couldn’t agree more!
